I am now quite tired, and mean to return by the first good opportunity but I have refused returning in the Buffalo with Gov King. As I have fixed a retired life, and independant of party prejudice, I flatter myself I have had a better opportunity of knowing the real state of the Colony than many others. I mean to write a true and impartial account, ready to put into your hands on my arrival, as by then I shall have sufficient leisure. In this I shall not go by hearsay, but what I have generally witnessed. My former account, I now consider to be partial, for though it chastises many evils, yet it puts a better dress on the colony than what it wears. But you may depend on it as a good foundation to build on, and may use it as the ground work of your enquiries.
I shall send to you by the Buffalo along with Gov King, a few specimens collected at Norfolk island, & Van Diemens Land, in the Journey to Mount Banks, & likewise in the last one I have been, But the grand bulk I shall retain until I return. I was in fully expectation of receiving some letters and paper by Gov Bligh, but this disappointment I attribute to your bad state of health. I trust that by this time you have dispatch some, for I can scarce do any thing for the want of it.
I shall send also by the Buffalo some descriptions of plants, accounts of some journies with maps. I hope that soon after this letter is received you will hear of the arrival of the Buffalo. I write this purposely to let you know what you may expect on the arrival of Gov King, and which you can only view as the fore runner of further information.
I remain your faithful
and obedient humble servant
