[Page 4]

P.S.  I have had since I have been here from the Gov. £25 in bills, and 50 lb of soap from the Greenwich, a whaler fishing here, the amounts I do not yet know; but in every article that I get, I shall keep a list of. In a former letter I wished for a few Manchester Goods for to make up my wants with, but I do not now mind much about them, for I think if I have my Garden well cultivated it will answer the same. Fifteen shillings a week would maintain a person decently, together with the indulgences of Government, providing he had nothing to do; but I am obliged to be liberal as well as frugal, otherwise I shall not be able to get forward. What returns I have made, are but trifling to what I could have done, had not I met with such inconveniences. Yet though but trifling, they have cast me a deal of fatigue and trouble, and in a manner I have been murdering my constitution, but still it has not made the least change in my mind, for I posess the same eagerness as usual..

Right Honorable
Sir Joseph Banks Bart.
