The Gardens both here and at Caltura are in a state of progressive improvement tho' from the lake having risen much beyond its usual level great exertion will be required to replace what has been destroyed    Caltura appears to me best calculated to promote the objects you have in view but this Garden still hold out every inducement for the strenuous exertions of the Cultivator and I am happy to say the West Indian Arrow root thrives remarkably well a prepared specimen of which I now send as a part of the first produce of the Garden

The hills and vallies of the Caltura Garden are most beautifully situated and afford a variety of soil capable of almost any improvement and susceptible of every species of Cultivation; without trespassing on your time Right Honble Sir and as the limits of a letter is two confined I have made every remark in my journal that I imagined would be satisfactory as to the nature of the different Soils &c. which I sincerely trust will meet your indulgent consideration & approbation
I have the honor to be
with great respect
Sir
Your most Obedient very
Humble Servant
