Oct. 26th – Thursday
Raining most of the day. No parades as we (AM.C.) are duty Company for the camp. Plenty of fatigues & I have charge of several parties. Usual duties on lines. Draft for the front miss the train. Expenses 5f. News of French great advance from Verdun to Douamont [also spelt Douaumont]. Roumanians still retreating. Sgts' mess meeting.

Oct. 27th – Friday
Bitterly cold night with plenty of wind. Relieved of my lines duty & very glad to get rid of it. Cold day. Parade 6 a.m. & 9 a.m. & after usual full parade, a long route march of about 8 miles through the village of Etaples, where market
