on the death of the Late Mr Boulton of Birmingham his son who succeeded him made many Complaints urging the inadequacy of the sum agreed for by his Father as the Price of the machinery for Coinage erected at the new mint, the only answer he Receivd was that the Price of the had been machinery was that which his Father had agreed to accept, under Articles signd by him, which of course could not now be alterd, as they had been solemnly accepted by the deceased Mr Boulton on his Part, & more especially & as he had never given Reason to any of the Persons Employd on the Part of the Public & believe suppose him dessatisfied with the Bargain he had made  

in the Engagement Enterd into by Mr Boulton the Father with the Treasury, he Covenanted to Provide that proper instructions should be given to the officers of H M. Mint sufficient to enable them Perfectly to understand & to use all the new machinery, this undertaking Mr Boulton, the Son Positively Refusd to fulfill, it was proposd to the then Master of the mint Earl Bathurst to take Legal measures to Compell him, but his Lordship declind this in Case any hopes could be entertaind of attaining the Object by less violent measures;  a manager of the new machinery was clearly wanted & his Lordship was fortunate enough to engage in that Capacity Mr Lawson who had been Mr Boultons principal manger of his Mint during the whole of his Coinagea at Soho & this Gentleman soon after Engaged by the desire of the master of the mint 4 of the Principal workmen at Soho who were perfectly masters of the whole every part of the Business both of making of Repairing & working the whole of the machinery 

it being impossible to Lodge these four workmen in the mint the master made an allowance to each in Lieu of a house with a view to accommodate them in the new Buildings as soon as Possible & houses would have been provided for them Long ago, had not the Censures passd in the House of Commons on the amount of the Sums Expended on the new mint, deterrd the Vice President of the Board of Trade from undertaking to defend in the house Even this Small
