His recumbent snoring form was surrounded by about 30 lighted candles & the boys then started a "wailing" It really looked most gruesome. The noise awoke the 'corpse' who on first coming too am sure thought he was a corpse – He was too drunk to rise but gave vent to his feeling. This incident must now close on a/c account of the language of the body which was most fluent.

Came off horse picket at 10 p.m there had been a terrific bombardment the whole evening & several of the fellows were going
