Albert about ½ mile away & we can see what was the church The spire has been hit & its back broken & although it has not fallen it is bent in half & the top of the spire is pointing to the ground. There is already a local prophecy that the war will end when the spire falls

July 22 (Sunday) Senlis
moved here to a bivouac 2 miles from Albert – Cpl C[dash] had been celebrating St Patricks Day (he does it every pay day!) and was fast asleep in the corner of a dark barn when some practical jokers suggested holding a 'wake' on him.
