front. it was forbidden to strike a light or smoke as we were told the Germans sometimes played a machine gun on the road at night when they thought any traffic was going along. But we got rid of our load uneventfully I am glad to say & heard nothing beyond an occassional rifle shot Got back to our billets at 11.45 quite ready for my blankets.

This morning had to hook into my limber & take 2 wheels into Sailly to put on to a waggon which had broken the tire of its wheel – a couple of hours did that little job & the rest of the day have
