detrained our horses & baggage & marched out to our temporary Camp

Abbeville which is a Transport Base is an old provincial town of some 12,000 inhabitants – a fine old abbey stands in the centre of it – with a market square, stone paved streets very narrow with brick & half timbered houses on either side.

We got our waggons here & also some new horses from the Remount Depot and after a 3 days spell we set off by road to join up with our Division. It was a good trek taking 4 days, easy stages of 14 or 15 miles each day, and as our halting place each night was near some little village we were able after we had fixed up
