Tuesday took rations out to the R.E yards at Montauban & Longueval
Roads in a terrible condition – transport & guns of every description – infantry going through both ways in single file. Rations & Ammunition going up on Pack mules & horses – Drivers ride one horse with 4 shells & lead another horse with 8 shells
Undulating country – devastated by shell fire which by day it is one mass of men & horses and at night just a dark screen pricked out with twinkling camp fires & the flash of guns.
It is rumoured that we are preparing
