of mud & bitterly cold – We have got a waggon cover slung between two trees & a fire pot burning underneath tonight so things are comparatively comfortable.

Nov 1 (Wednesday) Pommies Redoubt
arrived here on Monday afternoon after being 6 hours on the road doing 4 miles. The road being blocked with traffic as the 1st Aust Div was going in the & the 29th Div coming out.

Passed their Inf. on the road Munsters – R.IR. – Essex, Lancs Hants. They looked a pitiable sight – slathered in mud & shaken with the strain & hardships.
