Monday 7th Sept. 1914

8 am left Port Moresby in the following order. H.M.S. "Sydney" "Berrima" "Kanowna" & 3 Destroyers in line about 2   ½ Cables apart HMS "Encounter" followed by the SS "Aorangi" forming 2 de line 1pm they had some  trouble with firemen on board Kanowna and our Brigadier ordered her return to queensland. At night we steamed with all ships in darkness.

Tuesday 8th Sept 1914

Port Moresby to Rabaul steamed in same rotation as yesterday, at 1 pm passed a Destroyer escorting the Colliers & oil ships.

Wednesday 9th Sept

8 am arrived off Rossel  Island here we met the Flag ship the "Australia" The Brigadier & Commander Stevenson paid a visit to the Admiral & got invitations when we proceeded towards Rabaul (13 all told.) 4 pm Brigadier Major Heritage gave a lecture on Military Discipline etc  Brigadier Holmes also gave good advice & took his Officers in to his confidence and explained the position to htme and the duties they were expected to perform, which was well patronized.

Thursday 10th Sept 1914

The fleet proceeding to Rabaul. Troops drilling as usual.
