SUNDAY 1ST NOVEMBER 14:

At 1-35 a.m. the following message was received from Navy Office: -

"If you desire it, a limited amount of Public Correspondence may be accepted at Rabaul for Australia by wireless, at the rate of 3d per word radio charge, plus land line charge of Commonwealth, from Thursday Island."

At 1-50 a.m. the following message was received from Fleet W/T Officer.

"Arrived French Island; German Flag hauled down and taken; administered oath neutrality 4 New Guinea Coy. Officials.   Natives rebellious."

Church Parade was held at Rabaul and Herbetshohe as usual.

The Deputy Administrator and Lt. Col. Watson motored to Toma on a tour of inspection, leaving Rabaul at 8-0 a.m. and returning about 10-0 p.m., after making an official inspection of China Town Opium and Gambling Dens, and the Japanese Brothels.

Health of the troops continues good.
