WEDNESDAY - 26TH AUGUST 14:
At 7-15 the Officers received further instructions in Bayonet Fighting.
9-0 a.m. Two Coys of the Naval Contingent, together with three Coys of Infantry, M.G. and Signalling sections, and a Detachment of the A.M.C., landed on Palm Island. Mid-day rations were carried. Five rounds of ammunition per rifle were issued to the Infantry, and 250 rounds for each Machine Gun. Musketry grouping practice, skirmishing and attack formations were carried out by each Unit independently.
9-15 a.m. Capt. Glossop of H.M.A,.S. "Sydney" paid an official call on the Brigadier, and at 11-30 a.m. the Brigadier visited the "Sydney".
Ascertained from Capt. Glossop that the "Aorangi" would probably leave Sydney at 3-30 p.m. to join us here, therefore opportunity was taken of wiring to Sydney for the Mess Tins and Signalling Equipment which had not been put ashore by the Ordnance Dept.
The Troops returned to the Ship at 4-30 p.m.
At 5-0 p.m. a boat race was held Navy v Military, the former proving the victors.
P.M.O. reports that there are no serious case of sickness.
Arrangements are being made for a mail to be despatched on Friday, 28th instant.
