Monday: 17th August 1914:

Organisation of Force proceeding, as well as drilling and training of the men.   In the afternoon pay was issued, and at 4-0  p.m. the Force paraded for inspection by His Excellency, The Governor.

On   the arrival of the Mail from Melbourne, I received preliminary instructions from the Chief of the General Staff, together with some plans and intelligence reports.

Authority was received from Head Quarters for Lieut. Goadby, R.A.E. to accompany Expedition.   This Officer reported for duty at   11-0 a.m.
