Everywhere the allies had erected extensive works which showed that they meant business & that it was to be a permanent base for Salonika as well as Gallipoli. Piers and breakwaters were erected wherever necessary; and a large water condenser on the southern beach. The water supply gave great anxiety as the water from the wells was far from sufficient, and was causing much sickness amongst the men.
