of steaming in between the two transports, and the shore, and thus cover them from the enemy's fire, but before we could accomplish our purpose, the smaller of the two vessels succeeded in raising her anchor and towed the other out of range, very slowly dragging her anchor. They were hit about thirty times between them, and the casualties were, I think, 4 killed and eight wounded, of whom half a dozen were Turkish prisoners, who were on board.

Saturday May l5th
The day passed without any events of importance, but there are further rumours of the arrival of submarines, and it is obvious the authorities are getting more and more anxious.
