some of the artillery had been camped. Several men had been recently killed here & blood and hair was still visible. Fritz is still retiring, the [indecipherable] fighting the rear guard action.22nd Snowing fairly heavily. During the day this turned to sleet. Occasionally the sun shone but there was no warmth in it. No shells were heard at all. During the night it froze.23rd Beautiful day. The sun is shining & everything looks bright. We are now making preparation for a move which I believe is to be in a northerly direction.24th Cold and miserable nothing much doing all day.
