This case of the Maria is only a flagrant instance of the want of some deliberate rules to guide those who have to deal with Savages .... Here then is a great want  - some general law to regulate the means of controlling and protecting a large class of people necessarily included within the bounds of the empire, but hitherto kept beyond the pale of the law. The subject well deserves the early attention of Ministers and Parliament and it especially calls for the interference of Lord John Russell, whose earnest claim for just treatment of the aboriginal tribes of our dist. Territories met with such approving sympathy at the State Colonial festival.
