From enquiries I learn that there
has never been a settlement of
aborigines in the district tho[?]
they frequently passed through during
the days of the early settlers making
towards Mittagong during summer months
The bush here was too dense for their
purposes.

The district was originally
named Wingecarribee which together
with the towns of Kangaloon and
Burrawang the latter a corruption
of Burrawong ( a kind of Palm) are
native names, but I cannot discover
their meanings
