From enquiries I learn that therehas never been a settlement ofaborigines in the district tho[?]they frequently passed through duringthe days of the early settlers makingtowards Mittagong during summer monthsThe bush here was too dense for theirpurposes.
The district was originallynamed Wingecarribee which togetherwith the towns of Kangaloon andBurrawang the latter a corruptionof Burrawong ( a kind of Palm) arenative names, but I cannot discovertheir meanings
