Apr. 23, Friday – Reading "A Scrap of paper" by Dr. E.J. Dillon.

Apr. 25 – 1000 donkeys landed with dummy baggage & guns, covered by heavy fire of battleships. The real landing was effected some distance up the coast. The donkeys were bought for a mere song & annihilated. 670 prisoners were taken.

Apr. 24 – Left Harbour at daybreak. Special parade 10 a.m. to issue 200 Rds. Amm. & rations. All naval men on land will be in Khaki. German aeroplanes have a black cross, make for a tree, house or broken ground. Major Swannell read King's message. 3 days rations, full waterbottles & one canvas bag of water for every 15 men.
