                                                                        Ling Berries

James Cooper who has been a Soldier in the Somersetshire Fencibles informed Mr. Dickinson of Wainfleet that these Berries were gathered by indigent people in the West of England & sold to Distillers; and Mr. Dickinson further states that many people in the Neighbourhood of Wainfleet use them for Dumplings, & add them to elder Berries in lieu of Bullace or sloe-juice, to make wine.

[Note by Banks]
The Soldier certainly mistakes these berries for Juniper Berries
