I can assure you Sir no effort has been or shall be wanting on my part to collect as much rent as possible and to make the tenants sensible of their obligations to you. Ms Chisholm told me not to press them, and I believe in most cases it would have been useless to do so, a great many of them having lost either from drought or disease their only means of making a little money, namely their Teams, cows &c.
Those Tenants who have paid and been entitled to the remission seem very grateful for it, and I believe there is a general inclination on the part of the whole of them to pay were they able.
