[Typed note.]

The following 24 pp comprise a lengthy letter from William Macarthur to his brother James, written from France, October 9 to 28, 1855, describing a tour in the Médoc-Bordeaux country, its vineyards and wines, the methods employed in wine-making, etc.

(The latter portion was undated, but the year was determined by internal and external evidence.  Many weeks later, the first part was found in another bundle of Macarthur papers.  M.F.  2.4.47)
