gloom that has so long clouded all our Colonial prospects, and cast us so much of both money & vexation – Do offer to your dear Mother my heartiest felicitations upon the cheerful & happy change – Edward cannot obtain lease of absence this summer, which I am very sorry for, because I know he wishes to come over – and also because it prevents our having many a social chat together about your good Mother, and all her dear belongings.
When you have a spare half hour, do continue to speak of the recovered & recovering prospects of our dear old Colony. I can perfectly enter into your feelings regarding April and the [indecipherable] at the same month, one of the very same days too (Ap 19th) prostrated all my happiness in 1833, just two years after poor John.
