besides casual visitors.  There are 5 lifts driven by steam 4 of which go up to midnight and one going constantly, each lift requires two attendants, who wait upon it in turn.  There are steam engines to work the fire engines, and to supply the bedrooms, baths &c. with hot & cold water, of of which engines (10 horse power) to generate the electric light which is through the public rooms but it is supplemented with gass.  I was told it cost £1,500,000, that it ruined one of the builders, but that the present proprietor who
