My dear Sir William,

I wish you a happy new year, and many returns of the Season.  Time passes fast and changes take place in nations as well as in the circle of our friends.  At Camden there is a great Blank in the loss of Mrs. James Macarthur a lady of many excellent parts, and who was a pattern to every good and virtue.  Mrs. Onslow must feel her loss sadly, but time blunts and heals affliction, and in following the
