like a father to him, and I can never forget his kindness to him.  I may mention to you in confidence that Allan is engaged to a Miss Douglas a stepdaughter of Dr. Lightfoot, the Rector of Exeter College.  She is a daughter of a Capt. Douglas who fell in the Indian Mutiny, and on her Mother's death will be entitled to some £6000 or £7000.  She is very beautiful and in every respect a most excellent person, at least Sir Chas. and Allan says so, the only drawback I see is that her Mother does not like the idea
