but as he put a very high price £4000 for some 1200 sheep and as the sheep had been lately running on inferior sheep country, and as the flock was partly in the hands of two other parties, I was more indifferent about regaining a portion of the flock.  From the position taken by Learmouth, Currie Shaw &c I should have very up hill work to surpass them in the quality, and condition of their flocks, and without the prospect of taking one of the leading positions I would rather not enter into competition.  Still If I could have got the flock at a moderate price I should have made the attempt.  You will I daresay that recollect that the 150 Ewes I had were of a second
