My Dear Sir Wm. Macarthur,

Allow me to thank you for your very kind letter of the 11th which I received in due course.  I am almost ashamed to take advantage of your kind permission and to trouble you so much as I am doing with this unfortunate case against the Govt., and were it not that I can point to the fact that I never before appeared in a court of law either as Plaintiff or Defenant I should be afraid of incurring the character of a litigious man.  I will however in this case follow the advice of Sir Wm.
