letter in confidence, and there I mean to retain it.  If I could be of any assistance I can assure you it wd only be a pleasure, and a grateful acknowledgment for the kindness I received from you & your Brother while in your Employment.

As to your kind enquiries regarding my own officers, I am thankful to say that they have been prosperous.  My New Zealand investments promise to realize handsomely.  My eldest son I have started on his own account on 13,000 acres of purchased land wheated I have 20 miles from Sandhurst, he will be able to keep about 8000 sheep upon it & pay me a rent.  My second son passed his matriculation Examination with honours and is now attending the University, and my youngest is at the Scots College.  My Eldest daughter married one of the Wilsons of Wimmera one of the largest squatters amongst us - parting with her was one of the keenest sorrows ever inflicted upon me.  My two youngest daughters are with us.  Thank God all my family are everything I could desire.  May He in his mercy
