man.  He is a "Warden" upon one of the gold fields at a salary of some £700 a year.  He is married to a Miss MacLachlan from Tasmania, the daughter of I believe the late Mr. Charles McLachlan a wealthy settler who had some valuable property in Victoria.  I am told his Mother-in-law Mrs. MacLachlan lives at 3 Fitzroy Terrace.  I have not the pleasure of knowing any of the MacLachlans myself, but some of my youngsters have met them in good society here - nor have I ever met with Mr. Amos who from his appointment must be resident upon the gold fields, at Creswick I believe.
