planted by lily ground are alive I rather doubt about Rubus eglanteria, Lilium giganteum is coming up strong & bids fair to flower. I have received from Mrs Quinn your note of Apl 1st and am sorry that my two previo[us] letters had not then reached yo[u]. I fear you will think I have not written so often as you wished, it is in consequence of the continu[ing] cold weather that I felt there was so little fresh in the garde[n] to report on. I mentioned befor[e] that Russell is gone, but his goods are still in the house, am I right to ask, what about the garden there? I hope, not to ask a wrong question.
