My dear old Friend

A sight of your handwriting was indeed [indecipherable] for sore eyes & so now are all the better in consequence.

You must not however [indecipherable] my gratitude by this shabby note.  I have not been very well and have lost the

Sir William Macarthur

that we may meet again before the end of the year & if so I need not say what pleasure it will afford me, not only to see all the family you have been creating around you, but to visit with you & some of our old haunts in the [indecipherable].
