The many places visited by [indecipherable] interesting was Madirra [possibly Madhira].  Clarke having obtained a [indecipherable] train to convey us thither from [indecipherable] from which it was about 100 miles.  We had but a day for it & we did it with this [indecipherable].  Its old Temples are the largest & most [indecipherable] in all India & thus I was compensated for us having seen Benares.  I am afraid that I am bitten tho' now returning [indecipherable] by [indecipherable] for I find myself already planning another raid on the East for the end of this year.  May it be
