My very dear friend

I have been to Kandy & seen Thwaites & his gardens, the Calico the most exquisite creation of I have [indecipherable] in the way of Paradises.  I at least have never seen anything of the kind to be named with them. 

There is a chance of our getting to Aden in time to catch the outgoing mail & I shall prepare a letter for you telling you of all that I have
