My dear old Friend

Let me again, in [indecipherable] condole with you & express my deep regret at such a signal failure as you describe as having attended the St. Osyth envoi.  The trouble taken both in collecting the contents & in packing them was so great & the money they cost was so much, that the result is beyond measure am hoping.  You put up with this vexatious loss in so very admirable a spirit that the [indecipherable] on this side is very miserably embarrassed.  Had you used strong language against Green or against me, we should have been far less disgraced.

The Honble,
Sir W. Macarthur, M.L.C.
