my specimens of the same Orchids wh. had just been despatched by Green.

You are a wonderfully good man to write so calmly & good naturedly in connection with such a disappointment in this & the loss of so large a sum of money.  Your mode of taking this furious miscarriage seems to punish Green, for I [indecipherable] your letter, with no little consolation.  My first announcement of so [indecipherable] polite a failure, when he [indecipherable] expected [indecipherable] plant success having [indecipherable].  I am distressed enough about it myself.
