in as much as I have heard from others who wd. have let me know had there been anything amiss.  Alas! for the Cheviots [indecipherable].  I confess however my report at the "Fiasco" is swallowed up by my satisfaction at Arthur & W. Macleay's safe return, if I can use the word safe with respect to the latter, as [indecipherable] health is seriously damaged.  I went out to see Hooker yesterday, he was prepared to bear of your & my magnificent expectations having vanished into thin air, for all the wold has known the telegrams for some time past of the failure of the expenditure.  Alas! to go up like a Rocket
