My dear Macarthur

We were delighted to hear of yr. safe arrival in the good old Colony which with all its faults I love so dearly that I not infrequently find myself envying you your return to it.

Thanks many thanks for your considerate kindness in calling upon William so immediately after your arrival.  Your account of his health & appearance tallies with what  Deas Thornton & Roberts wrote me & on the whole is more satisfactory than I could have ever [indecipherable] to expect.  It will even be otherwise than an [indecipherable], but if
