where we were met by our Company guide Sgt. Barron and conducted to billets.
The French people in this district are in a pitiable condition for the most part. Many of them are living in badly battered houses, and have been literally starving. The tyrants have fled and taken with them every the few cattle horses and Poultry which the people possessed. This of course is the fortune of war but the people have suffered in many other ways other than this.
The During & after their liberation they suffered terribly for want of food & comforts. There were many sick and no medical aid of any description available.
