23rd May, 1919.

Dear Sir,

I desire to thank you for your letter of 6th instant, regarding the representations made concerning Lieutenant-Colonel D. G. Marks, D.S.O., M.C., A.I.F.

Lieutenant-Colonel Marks has intimated, however, that when he interviewed the State military authorities in Sydney,
the only offer of employment which was made to him did not commend itself to him for certain reasons purely of a personal nature, but at the termination of the interview he specifically asked that his name might be borne in mind in the event of further openings.

He has been given to understand that there are still two vessels to be commissioned for the purpose of deporting enemy aliens, and he would be very grateful indeed if he could be given an appointment.

Yours faithfully,

Premier.

The Honorable
The Acting Prime Minister of
The Commonwealth of Australia,
MELBOURNE.
