LONDON,
18th December, 1917.

My dear Marks,

The very hearties of congratulation on your permanent appointment as the C.O. of the good old 13th. I am certain it will be approved everywhere - for you have shown yourself in you long connection with the Battalion a man who has continually gained - and kept - the esteem and trust of both officers and men, and I am proud to say, if you will permit me to do so, has never done anything to loosen or lessen the hold you have gained over them. May God's blessing be with you, and guide and strengthen you in the heavy responsibilities now committed to you.

I had hoped to be with you last week, but the unexpected move of the Division upset my plans, and there was not time to hunt your new abode up. In all probability they will give me another trip next month, when I hope to be with you for a day or two. Meantime please accept for yourself, and pass it along to the Mess - my best wishes for a merry Xmas and a happy New Yeat, crowned by a joyful return as visitors to our sunny land.

Ever yours sincerely,

F.W. Wray,
(Senior Chaplain).
