[Tuesday 19 December 1916]
My "Bivvy" is made of two blankets over a Palm leaf [see sketch], a Canvas Bucket to wash in & 1 change of underclothing- from the door I watched a good aerial duel but the Hun ran.

Took out a Norton Spear Pump & drilling Machine on Pack Horse 5 miles in front & in view of the Turks we put down a Well in 30 minutes & struck good water-
This portable plant might be useful in a drought in AUS for beds of sandy creeks etc. WATER is the Key note of every thing here- Ate your Plum Pudding tonight  €“ as if I kept it for Xmas I might lose it- & another is on the way
