He offered to send me over to the Clearing Station, but in such a way as to make the offer very difficult to accept by practically asking me to stay here as long as possible. He then told me all about it as a sort of [a formal defense or justification] for not being able to cure me & also to demonstrate that I might wake up any moment to find it gone. As I have had the damned thing since April, this view did not meet with an enthusiastic endorsement on my part.
