from Gympie. Haven't had time to read paper, so don't know the news. Plenty of mud here – main item. Bed early.
Oct. 18th – Wednesday
Reveille as usual at 6 a.m. & parade 6-30 a.m. Raining hard all night but not so cold. Sleep well. Cold day, cloudy, but no rain. I have charge of a fatigue party during the morning on lines & a picket for lines afternoon. Most of the A.M.C. at the "Bull Ring". Three trains pass the camp – the 5th Division Australians – going from Ypres to the Somme. Scott goes to England. News from the lines scarce. Another "push" coming. A walk to 4th Div. Sgts. Mess & bed 9 p.m.
