My dearest Mater
Just now I am not going to attempt to write you a decent letter. I am merely going to scribble a line or two to thank you for your note of 22nd Jan which I received last night together with some photos:- enlargements of two groups taken early in the Peninsular affair, [Gallipoli] two pictures of Syd & one of Possum. For all of these I am very grateful. But Mater dear the mounts are just a trifle too big. Shipping about as we are continually, the photos are liable to become badly knocked about if they are any larger than say, a writing tablet. But I shall try and look after them. I was rather tickled with the calendars between which the photos were enclosed. You surely arent of the opinion that we are living in a house where we can hang these things, are you.
