Whilst I await a boat to take me across the Channel I will scribble a few lines in answer to yours of 4th Jan for which much thanks.
Thanks muchly for fixing up those Xmas presents on my behalf. I trust they pleased the recipients. I am glad you included Pauline Flora on the list. I take it that that is the name of the young lady recently arrived in the Woolambi family circle.
I'm pleased to read that you had such a nice note from Major Jopp in answer to yours. What did you write to him about? I do hope you did not tell him I had sent his letter on to you though, he must have known I did, otherwise you would not have known his address. Of course he spoke very highly of [me?] how could he do otherwise
