vague intimation from outsiders, which naturally causes greater anxiety.  You may guess that the letters which I received from friends referring to the Mater's serious illness caused me more than a little anxiety until I received your reassuring letter giving me, as it did, the true facts.  Certainly they were serious enough but they were at least more satisfactory than the state of things which my imagination conjured up.

I appreciate all you tell me about the care the Mater requires to disperse the effects of her illness. Paralysis is a very nasty word and I fervently trust it shall not enter the diagnosis but I know that you will do absolutely everything possible in caring for the dear Mater.  The only thing that keeps me going cheerfully at this loathed business is the thought of her and if I were to lose her as Bert Brown has lost Aunt Minnie my heart would go
