rough trip as it was raining pretty steadily and I had to fly very low against a wind of about 40 miles an hour. It took me exactly an hour for the return journey as compared with 22 minutes going over to Oxford!

This evening I am going to dinner at the Wickham Musgraves with Segrave and tomorrow I am going to dinner with some people called Vidal who live at Barnsley. There are a lot of very nice people living round here and they are very kind to the R.F.C. officers. Last night there was a cousin of Major Henderson's with us – Miss Garrard – she wants me to go and see her people who live at Lechlade which is about 12 miles away. So you can see that I will have quite a nice time here as the people living around are very nice and most hospitable.

On Wednesday I got a lovely Australian mail – your letters as detailed below. Mother's letter No 2 (1/8/17) both original and copy. Fathers letter No 4 (16/8/17). To day also I got the following letters. Mothers No 3 (9/8/17) copy & original. Mother's letters of August 15th & 22nd. Father's letters of August 8th & 22nd. So you can well imagine that I feel very bucked at getting such a lovely lot of letters.

The draft for £22 has not arrived but I will see the bank about it. I have a letter from Miss O'Brien
